The celebration of the Epiphany of the Lord was celebrated in the southern capital with traditional immersions of Almaty residents and city guests in “Jordans” - ponds and fonts specially equipped at churches. Tens of thousands of people, both believers and those seeking their path to God took part in the celebration of Epiphany.
Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan visited the Kazan Cathedral, next to which last fall a water-blessed chapel was created in the name of the Venerable Confessor Sebastian of Karaganda with a font for performing the sacrament of Baptism and immersion in Epiphany water. For the convenience of parishioners and pilgrims, a comfortable dressing room has been built nearby; The floor in the chapel is heated. The project was implemented with the blessing of the Head of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District by the Apostle public foundation, headed by President Georgy Gennadievich Sosnovsky.
The archpastor was met by the clergy of the cathedral and the head of the Apostle Foundation G.G. Sosnovsky. The Metropolitan in the chapel celebrated the feast of the Epiphany and bowed to the list of “measure in measure” from the miraculous Kazan image of the Queen of Heaven.
The hierarch got acquainted with the organization of Epiphany bathing and talked with the townspeople who came to the temple for the holiday. Hot tea was provided for the bathing participants.
Accompanied by G.G. Sosnovsky Metropolitan Alexander visited the children's theme park "Tales of the People of Kazakhstan", created by the Apostle Foundation next to the Kazan Cathedral. Georgy Gennadievich told the Head of the Metropolitan District about the work of the park on New Year's days and the Christmas period, noting the great interest of residents and guests of the Southern capital in the new place for children's leisure. The president of the foundation emphasized that the park is happily visited by citizens of different nationalities and religious views.
Metropolitan Alexander cordially thanked G.G. Sosnovsky for effective support of spiritual, educational and cultural projects of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan. During the conversation, plans for interaction between the Metropolitan District and the Apostle Foundation were discussed in matters of strengthening traditional moral values in Kazakh society and awakening the interest of young people in national history and culture.
