January 12, 2024. Alma-Ata. In the city akimat, a meeting was held between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan with the akim of the southern capital, Erbolat Askarbekovich Dosayev.
The head of the executive power of the metropolis congratulated the Head of the Metropolitan District on the occasion of the Nativity of Christ. “Celebrating Christmas is a good tradition for all Kazakhstanis, emphasizing the unity of our multinational people and common human values,” the mayor noted. Erbolat Askarbekovich emphasized that holidays of traditional faiths occupy a special place in the spiritual and cultural life of the people, and the social and economic development of the Southern capital, as well as the entire country, is impossible without close cooperation of government authorities with religious and public associations.
Metropolitan Alexander told E.A. Dosaev about the life of the Alma-Ata diocese and the conduct of services on the feast of the Nativity of Christ, in which numerous believers took part.
A special topic of the meeting was the celebration in 2024 of a significant historical date - the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Astana and Alma-Ata diocese, within the framework of which church spiritual, educational, scientific and cultural events are planned to be held in Almaty and Astana. The head of the Metropolitan District informed the akim about the work to create in the southern capital a house-museum of the outstanding church figure of the twentieth century, Metropolitan Joseph (Chernov), the opening of which is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the repose of the blessed hierarch to the Lord, which will be celebrated in 2025.
E.A. Dosayev told Metropolitan Alexander about the activities of the leadership of the metropolis and shared plans to strengthen the city’s economy, develop infrastructure and the social sphere, healthcare and education systems.
The parties exchanged views on the relevance and significance of the tasks set for the Kazakh society of the country by the President of Kazakhstan K.-Zh.K. Tokayev during his interview with the republican newspaper “Egemen Kazakstan” (“Sovereign Kazakhstan”) on January 3, 2024.
A discussion took place on a wide range of issues relating to the interaction of the Alma-Ata diocese and the city administration.
In memory of the meeting, the Head of the Metropolitan District presented the akim with an artistically executed panel depicting the Ascension Cathedral of Almaty and a new booklet dedicated to the history, modern life and scientific restoration of the oldest temple of the southern capital - the Kazan Church.
The mayor presented the bishop with a souvenir - a symbol of the metropolis - an apple decorated with a national pattern.
At the end of the conversation, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, Metropolitan Alexander and Erbolat Askarbekovich wished each other health and success in their work.
