Cossack Mother's Day celebrated in Almaty

On December 10, 2023, with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the celebration of Cossack Mother Day took place at the Republican House of Friendship in Almaty.

The event was dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Year of the Russian Language in the CIS countries.

The organizers of the holiday were: “Association of Russian, Cossack and Slavic organizations of Kazakhstan”, “Union of Cossacks of Semirechye”, public association “Folk Traditions of Semirechye”, department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District for interaction with the Cossacks, Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.

The celebrations were attended by: Deputy Chairman of the Metropolitan District Department for Cooperation with the Cossacks, Priest Evgeniy Kozlov, Cossacks and leaders of ethnocultural associations.

The chairman of the Alma-Ata city branch of the “Association of Russian, Slavic and Cossack organizations of Kazakhstan”, the ataman of the “Union of Semirechye Cossacks”, member of the “Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan” V.S. Shikhotov. Vladimir Semenovich warmly congratulated the Cossacks on the holiday, wished them health and family well-being and conveyed congratulations from the chairman of the “Association of Russian, Slavic and Cossack organizations of Kazakhstan” V.K. Bozhko.

Well-wishes were also expressed by: Deputy Chairman of the Department of the Metropolitan District for Interaction with the Cossacks, Priest Evgeny Kozlov, Chairman of the Ossetian Ethno-Cultural Association K.V. Mamsurov; Chairman of the Alma-Ata city Ukrainian ethno-cultural association T.A. Agapova; Chairman of the Association of Greek Societies of Kazakhstan “Philia” K.G. Jordanidi; Chairman of the Council of Mothers of the “Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan” in Almaty M.V. Israilova; Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University K. Zhanabaev; Chairman of the Council of Elders of the “Union of Cossacks of Semirechye” V.R. Popov; Head of the branch of the "Union of Cossacks of Semirechye" in the Alma-Ata region Abay Yu.G. Yakubovsky, head of the branch of the “Union of Cossacks of Semirechye” in the Karaganda region E.L. Otvodenko; Head of the Alma-Ata regional branch of the “Union of Cossacks of the Steppe Territory” V.K. Maksimov.

All Cossack women were presented with bouquets of flowers, certificates of gratitude and souvenirs.

On behalf of the mothers, the Chairman of the Council of Cossacks, E.V. Shikhotova, spoke. Elena Viktorovna thanked for the good wishes and noted the responsibility of mothers for strengthening family values.

After the award ceremony, a concert was held at which Cossack songs and dances were performed with a demonstration of skills in wielding a saber and a whip.
