Nun Olympiada (Salopeko) appointed abbess of the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery in Karaganda

On July 25, 2024, a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church was held at the Patriarchal and Synodal Residence in the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, chaired by His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus'.

The Holy Synod, in connection with the petition of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, decided to appoint nun Olympiada (Salopeko) to the post of abbess of the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery in Karaganda (Journal No. 98, paragraph 1, v).

The candidacy of nun Olympiada (Salopeko) for the post of abbess was presented by the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan.

Abbess Olympiada (in the world – Olga Salopeko) was born on July 5, 1965 in the city of Karaganda, Kazakh SSR. She was baptized in 1970 in the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery in Karaganda.

From 1972 to 1982 she studied at Secondary School No. 6 in Karaganda. In 1987 she graduated from the Technological Institute of the Meat and Dairy Industry in Semipalatinsk. From 1987 to 2000 she worked as a foreman in the fermented milk workshop at the Karaganda GorMol Plant.

In 2000 she entered the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery in Karaganda. She carried out obediences as a cook, a seller in the church shop, a reader and a cellarer. On April 26, 2019, she was tonsured into monasticism with the name Olympiada in honor of the holy deaconess Olympiada of Constantinople. She is the spiritual daughter of Archimandrite Peter (Goroshko), a disciple of the holy elder Sebastian, and learned monasticism from the ever-memorable schema-abbess Sebastiana (Zhukova).

In 2020, she graduated from the Theological and Missionary Faculty at the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.

In 2023, she graduated from the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.

On May 18, 2024, by decision of the Synod of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, she was appointed acting senior sister of the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery in Karaganda.
