April 20, 2024. Ust-Kamenogorsk. In the spiritual, cultural and administrative center of the Ust-Kamenogorsk diocese named after the Hieromartyr Alexander Dagaev, a working meeting between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and Archbishop of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk Amfilohiy took place.
Bishop Amphilohiy informed the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan about the implementation of educational, charitable and youth projects in the diocese; spoke about the life of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Holy Trinity Monastery and the Znamensk-Abalatskaya Peter and Paul Convent, and also shared plans for the construction of a Sunday school at St. Andrew's Cathedral.
One of the topics of communication between the archpastors was the upcoming celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Astana and Alma-Ata diocese, within the framework of which church spiritual, educational, scientific and cultural events with the participation of the Kazakh episcopate are planned to be held in Almaty and Astana. A gift to the Orthodox believers of the Southern capital for this memorable date will be the bringing of a shrine known in the Orthodox world - the miraculous icon of the Mother of God “Healer”, kept in the Alekseevsky Stauropegic Convent in Moscow. The central event of the spiritual celebrations will be the open-air Liturgy in St. Nicholas Cathedral, where the meeting of the image of the Queen of Heaven will take place.
During the meeting, topical issues of the spiritual life of Orthodox believers in Eastern Kazakhstan were discussed. An exchange of views took place on the state of church-state relations and interfaith dialogue in the diocese.
At the end of the meeting, Metropolitan Alexander and Archbishop Amfilohiy exchanged wishes for God's help in serving the Church of Christ.
