The first concert of the musical project “Theology in Sounds” took place in Almaty

March 10, 2024. Alma-Ata. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the first concert of the musical project “Theology in Sounds” took place in the Ascension Cathedral.

The event was held with the support of the cultural department of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan.

The initiators and organizers of the educational project: cleric of the Ascension Cathedral of the southern capital, Abbot Philip (Moiseev); artistic director – Natalya Golovina. The chants were performed by the male choir of the main temple of the city of Almaty.

The leader of the project is Archpriest Alexander Ievlev, cleric of the Ascension Cathedral.

As part of the educational event, the general public will become acquainted with little-known church musical works of the Russian Orthodox Church. The repertoire will cover partes polyphonic works of the 17th-18th centuries. up to the examples of the Russian school of counterpoint of the 19th-20th centuries.

The guests of the musical festival were: the head of the Metropolitan District's public relations department, the keymaster of the Ascension Cathedral, Archpriest Alexander Suvorov; cleric of the Peter and Paul Church, Priest Kirill Gromov, head of the Metropolitan's protocol service, Protodeacon Roman Golovin, parishioners of churches and students of Sunday schools in the southern capital, students of the Alma-Ata Theological Seminary, representatives of the creative intelligentsia.

The cycle opened with a concert program of znamenny and line chants; as well as the performance of a piece of a sample of early Russian baroque authored by one of the greatest Russian partes composers - the sovereign singing clerk Vasily Titov.

The following were offered to the attention of the listeners: kontakion to the Exaltation of the 11th century, kontakary chant, transcript by G. Pozhidaeva; “On the River Babylonstey”, chant of Marcellus Bezborodov of the 16th century, transcribed by G. Pozhidaeva; stichera based on the 50th psalm of the Annunciation of the 18th century, transcribed by G. Pozhidaeva; worthy of Easter, chant of Theodore the Christian, 17th century, transcript by G. Pozhidaeva; “The Only Begotten Son”, Old Russian polyphony, terns of the 17th century; “Come, let us worship”, childhood, 17th century; “Trisagion” (Bagpipe), 17th-century demestial ternary, deciphered by A. Smirnova; “Our Father”, znamenny one-voice, 18th century; “Quiet Light”, early polyphony of the 17th century, transcription by M. Brazhnikov; stichera on “I cried to the Lord” of Nedelya Vaiy, Old Russian polyphony of the 18th century; Psalm 151 from the Rhymed Psalter of Simeon Polotsk, composer - singing clerk Vasily Titov (Korobov), early baroque of the early 18th century.
